Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Alumni Child and Adolescent training in family, individual and group treatment (SPCAF)

JUNE 5, 2025 - JUNE 14, 2025

This advanced Sensorimotor Psychotherapy training adapts the concepts, interventions and foundational skills acquired in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy trainings to address the challenges that child and adolescent clients and their families face.

Adjusting SP principles, theory, concepts and interventions so that they are suitable for younger clients, we will teach ways to strengthen and build trust in the therapeutic relationship through positive reinforcement and other strategies, use child friendly vocabulary, apply experiential psychoeducation, create child-friendly SP environments, and more. With an emphasis on drawing upon the wisdom of the body to resolve the effects of trauma and relational / attachment wounds, we will explore age-appropriate body-based games, activities, somatic resources, use of props, and homework assignments. The effects sociocultural factors, collective and transgenerational trauma, oppression and intersectionality in treatment of CAF clients will also be discussed.

Drawing on contributions from developmental, trauma and attachment theory, Family Therapy, Groups Psychotherapy, Sensory Integration, Interpersonal Neurobiology and other relevant approaches, participants will learn to apply an SP in three contexts: individual, group and family psychotherapy. This three-pronged approach works synergistically to optimize treatment outcome so that children, adolescents and families significantly improve affect regulation, change procedural learning, and enhance sensory processing.
